“Many of our people come from totally different backgrounds and cultures. That’s one of the things I like most about working here. But it means I sometimes have a bit of explaining to do. One new joiner was coming from India and was concerned about the quality of rice in the UK. He was going to bring 100kg of rice in his luggage. So I had to explain to him some of the basics about living in England. It’s really given me a new perspective on things. I have to be diplomatic too – sometimes the negotiations about final terms and conditions can be quite prolonged and I’m generally in the middle. I’ve got a great team to work with here in Birmingham though and we all support each other when the going gets tough. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
