Ernst & Young in general always promotes you to keep moving, keep changing, always sort of trying to increase your experience and move you up that level every year. So it’s definitely something good, and it’s definitely something positive, but also it’s got such a, I think, wide range of services – I could always move into mergers and acquisitions, so something that... I’ve always got that opportunity to move to different areas, learn different experiences, and I think that’s what keeps me interested, really.
“I’ve always got that opportunity to move to different areas, learn different experiences, and I think that’s what keeps me interested.”
Stretching myself
“Before any new project starts at Ernst & Young, you sit down with a partner or senior partner to discuss what role you want to play and which elements of the job you’d like to work on most. That means you can decide how far you want to stretch yourself – it’s on your own terms. If you want to take it a bit further, you make that clear and your manager will set goals and targets for you that are just beyond your level.
“I want to get on and get promoted to manager. At Ernst & Young, that means you have to show that you can do the job before promotion so you take on the role for a number of projects and get used to it. There are always opportunities to take things to the next level here and you can generally decide when you want to take advantage of them. That’s definitely the way I like to work.”
