Human Resources I view as a business.  I view that the part of HR that I lead as my business, so there is absolutely clarity around the level of costs that I can incur.  I’m very clear about the services that I provide.  Wrapped around those services are service-level agreements, KPIs, et cetera, and we even have a service catalogue which details exactly what we provide to the business, and indeed what we expect from the business as well, because it’s a two-way service.  So ultimately we can wrap all of that around, and then we’re very public.  We’re very public in our performance every month, and ultimately the business will sign off in terms of what it wants from us.  So it can make some decisions as it changes, and the firm has changed tremendously in the seven years that I’ve been with it.  And consequently you would expect Human Resources to change and alter at the same time, so it’s about clarity, clarity around cost, and then making sure that the services that we provide are in sync with the sort of changing arena of the wider firm.
